Gö Strade Bianche Traverse the Leinetal – May 7 2023

Gö Strade Bianche DE HomeENG Home

I rode out from the Gö Velodrome with the aim of crossing the valley going West to East. A running race had closed the paths/roads in the immediate area around the velodrome which meant I had to change my plans a little bit. I cheered them on!

The track took me to the high ground at Volkerode (West side) and then eventually to above Ballenhausen/Gross Schneen (East side).

Göttingen is located upon the Leine River, and this flows northward through the Leinetal (valley). The valley floor is almost flat if a little like an over garnished Pizza, but when you go east or west then the terrain becomes vertically challenging. This means climbs.

This ride is an amended tour and is ridden in homage to the Strade Bianche cycle race held in Tuscany, Italy. The ride has a motto – Schließ´ die Augen und stell Dir vor, Du seist in der Toskana, und mach´ sie erst am Ende der Radtour wieder auf (Close your eyes and think yourself in Tuscany and then open them at ride end).

Strong cloud cover prevented clear views from the high ground and despite recent rain the gravel is beginning to become white in the Leine Valley.
